What this helps you do¶
Check one query across five AI search engines right now and see whether your brand shows up, without setting up a tracked prompt or waiting for a scheduled run.
This is the "I just thought of a question, how do I look on it?" tool.
How to run one¶
Ask Moose in chat, in plain language. Something like "check how we show up for project management software for agencies" is enough.
Moose proposes the exact query and shows you a confirmation card. The check doesn't run yet. You can edit the query on the card and start it yourself, so a misread request costs you nothing.
What it checks¶
Five engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok, Google AI Mode, and Google Search.
The check fetches directly from your device against the public surfaces, so it doesn't draw on your managed credit balance or your OpenRouter key.
Reading the result¶
The headline tells you how many of the engines mentioned your brand, and how many cited your own site.
Each engine gets a verdict:
| Result | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Recommended | Your brand was put forward as an answer |
| Listed among others | You appeared, alongside alternatives |
| Described neutrally | Mentioned without a recommendation either way |
| Described negatively | Mentioned unfavorably |
| Not in the answer | The engine didn't mention you |
You'll also see whether each engine cited your site specifically, and how many sources it cited in total. Mentions and citations are different wins: being named in the text is not the same as your page being the source the answer was built from.
Queries are labeled Branded or Unbranded. Unbranded queries are the harder and more valuable test, because the engine had no prompt to mention you.
If an engine couldn't be reached, the result says so rather than counting it as a miss.
Turning a check into tracking¶
A result card has an Add to tracked prompts action. That promotes the query into your Prompt Manager so it runs on your schedule from then on.
One check is a snapshot, not a trend
An instant check tells you where you stand this minute. AI answers vary between runs, so a single result shouldn't be read as a change. Tracked prompts run on a schedule and build the trend line that actually tells you whether something moved. Use instant checks to find questions worth tracking, then track them.
Where to go from here¶
- Visibility — the scheduled version of this, with trends and history.
- Prompt Manager — organize the prompts you've promoted.
- AEO Audits — when a check goes badly and you want to know why.
