Disk space

Room for a standard desktop app install. If you turn on local AI, each model downloads separately and needs extra space.

Local AI (optional)

Running the on-device Gemma model is optional, not required to use Hi, Moose. If you turn it on, plan for 8 GB of RAM for the light model, 16 GB for the everyday default, or 32 GB for the largest model. See the local AI page for the full breakdown.

Is Hi, Moose free?

Yes. The desktop app is free to install and free to use locally, including unlimited use of the built-in local Gemma model. You only add cost if you choose to bring your own API keys for frontier models or move to a managed plan.

Is the Hi, Moose app safe?

Yes. The Windows installer is code-signed to Farmball LLC, the company behind Hi, Moose, and Windows shows that publisher name before anything runs. Both Mac builds are scanned and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens them without a Gatekeeper workaround. Every download comes from himoose.com, and updates arrive over HTTPS carrying the same signatures. Nothing installs on its own. The app tells you a new version is ready and waits for you. Once installed, Hi, Moose is local-first: your site data and drafts stay on your machine, and nothing leaves it unless you connect a key, a plan, or a CMS yourself. If an installer ever shows a different publisher name or comes from another site, do not run it.

Is my data private and local-first?

Hi, Moose is local-first by default. Your context, drafts, and local-model conversations stay on your machine. Things leave your desk only when you explicitly choose it - your own API key, a managed plan, or a CMS connection you set up yourself.

Which Mac download do I pick, Apple Silicon or Intel?

If your Mac has an M-series chip (M1, M2, M3, M4, or newer), choose Apple Silicon - it is the native build and runs best. The Intel build also runs on Apple Silicon Macs via Rosetta, so it works as a fallback, but the native Apple Silicon build is recommended for anyone on an M-series machine.

Do I need to pick a local AI model size right away?

No. Local AI is optional, and if you turn it on, you can start with any model size and switch later. Nothing about your plan or setup locks you into a size.

How do updates work?

Hi, Moose checks for updates and can install them in-app, so you do not need to come back to this page for every new version.

Is there a Linux version?

Not yet. Linux support is not available today and we do not have a firm date to share. Windows and macOS are the supported platforms right now.
