Does AI recommend
my business?
Ask Moose that question and it runs live against five AI search engines, then comes back with one answer: where you were named, where you were cited, and the sentence that proves it. The checks hit the real public engines from your own computer, so it is the answer a customer would get right now.
I will ask the question a customer would ask, unbranded, so we see whether you come up on your own.
Takes a minute or two. I will fill in each engine as it answers.
If you want something simple and privacy focused, Fathom Analytics is the one most small sites land on: flat monthly pricing, no cookie banner needed, and EU data isolation on every plan.

Widely used alternatives include Plausible, Fathom Analytics, Simple Analytics and self hosted Matomo, all of which avoid cookies by default.
4 sources cited
Fathom Analytics provides a single page dashboard and does not use cookies, though it offers fewer custom reporting dimensions than Google Analytics 4.

Named Plausible, Matomo and Google Analytics 4 itself. Fathom Analytics did not appear anywhere in the overview.

Grok asked for a signed-in session, so this engine was not checked. It is not counted as a miss either way.
Chief desk supervisor. Fathom Analytics is a real company and not a customer. We used them because the query is one their buyers genuinely type.
Five engines, one question, at the same time
One check runs your question across all five in parallel and returns a single answer. These five are where buyer questions land today.
The search mode, not the plain model. It reads live pages before answering.
Answers with a visible source list, so citation is easy to verify.
Google's conversational mode. Writes its own searches before it answers.
The summary above the blue links. Often the only answer a searcher reads.
Needs a signed-in session, so it is the engine most likely to be skipped.
Five in the instant check for now. The Visibility dashboard tracks more engines over time, including Claude, Gemini and Bing Copilot.
The real engines, not an API imitation of them
Most tools ask a model through an API and call the result AI visibility. An API call is a different product from the search experience your customer uses. Moose opens the public version of each engine from your own computer and reads what comes back.
It costs nothing, and here is why that is possible
The fetching happens on your machine and Moose reads the results itself. There is no cloud bill behind it, so there is nothing to charge you for. It spends zero of your monthly allowance and needs no API key, including on the free plan.
It is the first button on your first chat
Install, open a chat, click once. Nothing to configure and no dashboard to learn first.
There is also no magic phrase. Moose decides when to run a check by reading what you meant, not by matching a keyword. All of these work:
You can do this by hand. Here is the whole job.
Nothing here needs a tool. It needs five tabs, a notes file, and the discipline to judge every answer the same way. Timings are for one question, once.
Logged in, with your own history and location shaping the answer. That is not the answer a stranger gets.
By the time you have read the fifth you have lost the wording of the first. Mention and citation blur together.
Was that a recommendation or a list? You will not grade the fifth answer the way you graded the first.
Next month you do it all again from memory, so you can never say whether anything moved.
Five things the answer has to tell you
A check is only useful if the answer is readable in five seconds and defensible in five minutes. That is the shape above: verdict first, evidence underneath, sources one click away.
Mentioned on X of Y, cited on Z. It is the only thing most people read, so it goes first, at display size, before any per-engine detail.
Five tiles, one per engine, each with the engine mark and a single glyph. Check, dash, or question mark. It gives the shape of the result before any reading happens.
The sentence you appear in, unedited, under every engine that mentioned you. It is what makes the verdict arguable instead of trust-me. Never collapsed behind a click.
Every source the engine cited, collapsed by default, with your own domain highlighted. Nobody needs twenty domains inline, but everybody wants them when they doubt the result.
Recommended, listed among others, described neutrally, or characterised negatively. Drawn from the answer text, sat next to the quote that produced it.
A snapshot is not a trend, so the card ends with a single primary action: add this exact question to your tracked prompts. Scheduling stays where scheduling lives. It also says plainly that this run itself is not saved to the dashboard.
Blocked is not a failure state and it is not a zero. An engine that could not be reached is reported as unchecked and excluded from the count, so the headline never claims something the run did not prove.
Questions people actually ask
How is this different from the Visibility dashboard?
This is a snapshot of one question, right now. The dashboard is the trend: tracked prompts run on a schedule, kept over time, so you can see movement. The instant check is deliberately not saved to it. When a question turns out to matter, add it as a tracked prompt and Moose will watch it from then on.
How can it be free?
Because the work happens on your computer. Moose fetches the public answer pages locally and reads them itself, so there is no API bill and no server cost to pass on. It spends zero of your monthly allowance and needs no API key, on every plan including BYOK Free.
Do I have to phrase the question a certain way?
No. There is no magic phrase and no keyword list. Moose reads what you meant and decides a check is the right move, so "would ChatGPT suggest us to someone looking for tools like ours" works exactly as well as "does AI recommend my business".
Why does it ask an unbranded question by default?
Because naming yourself in the question guarantees you appear in the answer, which tells you nothing. The unbranded version tests whether you come up on your own. If you want the branded version, ask for it and Moose will run that instead.
What happens when an engine cannot be checked?
It says so. Grok needs a signed-in session, and ChatGPT or Perplexity occasionally put up a sign-in wall. When that happens the engine is reported as unchecked and excluded from the count. Moose will never record an unchecked engine as "not mentioned", because those are different facts.
What counts as being mentioned?
Your brand name, or the brand terms configured for the project, appearing word for word in the answer text. That means the project needs a brand name or website set up before a check is meaningful. Paraphrases and near misses are not counted as mentions.
Can it check more than one question at a time?
One question per check, on purpose. Five engines answering the same question is comparable. Five engines answering five different questions is a report nobody reads. Run another check for the next question.
Does it work in the browser?
No, it is a desktop app feature. The checks run from your own machine against the public engines, which is exactly why the results are real and why they are free. Create your account on the web, then install the app.
Which engines are covered?
Five in the instant check: ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Grok, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews. The Visibility dashboard tracks more over time, including Claude, Gemini and Bing Copilot.
More things to ask Moose
All use casesGetting named is the easy half. Every answer graded against your own brand truth, with the sentence that failed.
The searches ChatGPT writes for itself before it answers. Those are the queries your pages have to win.
When AI Mode needs the live web it writes its own Google searches. See them, and who got cited.
A semantic index of every page, built and kept on your computer. Ask it what you cover.
When a question matters, watch it weekly. Answer share, citations and movement over time.
