Hi, Moose in Your Browser

Moose explains the new web app at console.himoose.com/app, how the Visibility report keeps a copy in the browser, which jobs run in the cloud when your computer is off, and what stays in the desktop app.

A warm home office at night, a desk lamp lighting an open laptop beside a small globe on a wooden stand, a mug, a window with a night sky, and a scruffy dog resting in a bed under the desk

TL;DR

  • Hi, Moose now runs in a browser at console.himoose.com/app, with the same screens as the desktop app, so you can open your AI visibility reports from any desktop browser without having to install the app.
  • The web app keeps a copy of your stored AI answers inside the browser and fills the newest days first, so the Visibility report is on screen in seconds and stays there between visits.
  • On paid managed plans, briefs, FAQs, key points, featured images and AEO audits run in the cloud when no computer of yours has the app open. The same applies to jobs from Hi, Moose MCP and the REST API.
  • Local AI models, free Visibility runs, the crawl of your site, Send Moose and publishing stay in the desktop app.
  • Also in this batch: Hi, Moose MCP gained a refresh_content tool, and the Opportunities tab sorts its rows into P1, P2, P3 and Defend with an Excel export.

The same AEO app, in the browser

Hi, Moose is an AEO desktop app. That has not changed. With this update though, Hi, Moose is now available in the browser at console.himoose.com/app. It is the same app, with the same screens.

The reason we created this was simple. Not everyone who needs to read an AI visibility report wants to install an app to do it. A manager who checks the numbers once a week, or a colleague on a locked-down laptop. The web app now covers them.

Signing in on the website now lands you in the web app. The desktop app opens only when it started the sign-in, or when you ask for it.

Your AI visibility report keeps a copy in the browser

The part of this update that we spent the most time on is speed. The AI Search Visibility report for a busy project is a lot of stored answers, and we wanted it to feel extremely fast/responsive. I think we did it, although we have a few more adjustments we plan to make that should make it even faster in the future.

So the web app does what the desktop app has done since earlier this month: it keeps a local copy. The browser holds a small database in its own storage area, a background worker fills it from the cloud, newest days first, and the page draws from the copy while older days arrive. Each day travels as one compressed file. In our tests a day of answers for a large project was delivered at under 100 KB where the plain version was about 3 MB - a very nice improvement.

The copy of the data survives between visits, so the second visit paints from what is already there. Signing out deletes it from your browser. Settings shows how much space the copy uses and lets you set a limit, 512 MB by default, with the oldest days trimmed first. We tested in Chrome and Firefox.

Briefs, FAQs and audits run in the cloud when your host machine is off

On a managed plan the chat on the web has the tools menu you know from the desktop: content brief, featured image, FAQs, key points and AEO audit. When your computer, or server, with the app is open, the job goes there and uses everything on it, including the crawl of your site. When it is not, the job runs in the cloud.

A cloud brief is written without reading your website, so it has no related pages and no internal links. The result lands in your Library on the web and in the desktop app after its next sync.

This also updates something I wrote in the last post. There I said jobs from Hi, Moose MCP and the REST API need a computer with the app open. On managed plans they now take the same route as the web tools: your computer when it is online, the cloud when it is not.

Free accounts get the cloud tools too, on the free models, with one run that includes live search research a day and a daily limit on the rest. Free Visibility runs still happen on your own computer through the desktop app, because that is what makes them free.

What stays in the desktop app

Some things need your computer, and the web app will let you know when that is the case. Local AI models run on your machine. The free Visibility runs through ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity run in your own browser session, within the app, on your machine. The crawl of your site lives there, and so do chat answers that use it. Send Moose opens a browser and works on your computer. Publishing connections to WordPress, Grav and Webflow keep their credentials on your machine. Bring-your-own-key runs stay on the desktop, since the web app stores no provider keys at all.

Home on the web shows an install card that lists what the desktop app adds.

Before the first deploy, the web build went through a security review by two separate reviewers. Every item on the list was fixed before the app went live.

Also in this batch

  • Hi, Moose MCP gained refresh_content. Give it a live page, a saved draft or pasted text, and I work out the query it targets, run the same live research a brief gets, and return a refresh brief with the gaps and a revised draft.
  • The AEO Opportunities tab sorts its rows into P1, P2, P3 and Defend, where Defend is a lead that is at risk, and the whole queue exports to Excel.
  • The in-app browser in the desktop app blocks site notification prompts by default.

FAQ

Do I still need to install the desktop app?

Not to read your reports. The web app at console.himoose.com/app covers Visibility, Opportunities, the Library, Inbox, Audio and your Context screens, and on managed plans it runs briefs, FAQs, key points, featured images and AEO audits in the cloud. The desktop app adds local AI models, free Visibility runs on your own computer, the crawl of your site, Send Moose and publishing.

Where does the web app keep my data?

Your stored AI answers are copied into a small database in the browser's own storage area, on the computer you are using, and the page reads from that copy. Signing out deletes it. Settings shows the space it uses and lets you set a limit. The web app never stores provider keys or publishing credentials.

Does a cloud brief read my website?

No. When no computer of yours, or server, has the app open, the brief is written without your site index, so it has no related pages and no internal links. Open the desktop app on your computer and run it again to get the full version.

Can I use the web app on a free plan?

Yes. Free accounts sign in to the same web app, see their reports, and get the cloud tools on the free models with one run that includes live search research a day. Free Visibility runs happen on your own computer through the desktop app.
